The idea of Ilhangoo arikalh is well supported by Tiruvalhlhuvar also (uul 10). Here Valhlhuvar says that even one acts carefully the fate goes before him. He uses the word munthutum. Munthutum means going before. It means that if a person wants to conquer fate it will try to conquer him. If he is a man of perseverance he will try to conquer it. So there will be continuous competition between him and fate. This is the idea expressed by Valhlhuvar. He clears the idea in another kutalh (aalvinai 10). For this the commentary says that the person who is always alert will conquer fate Now let us find out the meaning by analysing the word “Uppakkam”. The man of perseverance will keep the fate at a distance which is neither far off nor nearer. He will not allow the fate to react even though he cannot destroy fate. So the above too kutalhs clearly express that the man of perseverance can avoid fate even though he cannot destroy it. So the author Iihangoo atikalh in the words “Uuzhvinai.” uruththu vanthu unt Tum” clearly mentions that the fate will make shape or a figure and will approach the person to whom it belongs and will feed him if he is not alert. He also means that the fate can be avoided even though it cannot be destroyed. KaNNaki was the lady who avoided fate. As per Niili’s curse she should also die unnoticed and unhonoured after the murder of her husband like Niili. KaNNaki by her will-power and perseverance fought against it and proved that Koovalan was an innovent person. She also became the heroine of Cilappathikaaram. She thus remains in the minds of the people for ever. Saavithri also avoided fate and she brought back her husband’s life by her perseverance and thus stands as a symbol of chastity. Maarkka NTeeya is another example and he avoided fate by his alertness. All these evidences clearly show that fate can be avoided by perseverance and strong will power... 426
