ThiruvaavaTuthutai aathiinam brought out 14 sastras and Tharumapuram produced 18 works and both the sets go under the title ‘paNTaara caaththiram’. And the word ‘pan NTaaram' means “excess of knowledge’. Ampalavaana theeciKar of thiruvaavaTuthutai aathiinam brought out 10 works on the Saiva Siddhanta. They are : i. Thacakaariyam : As the name suggests the work deals with ten actions. It explains the pacunjaanam, paacanjaanam and pathinjaanam, the avaththais (keevalam, cakalam and cuththam) and also explains the difference between ciivanmuththi and paramuth thi. Canmaarkka ciththiar: This deals with the path of knowledge as explained in the Saastras. And also it differentiates this from the paths of cariyai, kiriyai and yookam on the one hand and the yooka system of other schools on the other. Civaacciramaththelhivu : This explains the two types of Thiitcai, one civatharumaani and the other ulakatharumaani. This work reasons out that the former is meant for the sanyasi and the latter for the house holder. Ciththaanthappaxtotai : It compares the approach of deserving disciple to a qualified master to that of a lady love to her lover. Ciththan htha cikaamani: This work explains the nature of I-ness (akappattu) and my-ness (putappattu) and how to be rid of these two bonds and pursue the path of God. Upaayanhittai venpaa : This deals with the methods which enable one to be rid of bonds and see the self and the Lord. NiTTai vilhakkam : Meditating on the Holy feet of the Lord is civanjaanam and that is fully explained in this work. 428
