FOREWORD IN January, 1955, the decision was made by Government that a large number of subjects which were taught through the medium of English should be taught in the medium of Sinhalese and Tamil in the senior secondary stages with effect from January, 1956. Along with this decision it was necessary to consider the machinery to produce the books required for such a change-over. The Depart- ment of Swabhasa was created in the middle of 1955 as the machinery for attending to this work. One of the first jobs this Department had to undertake was the preparation of glossaries of technical terms in the various technical subjects. BANDA, Minister of Education. நூன்முகம் 1956 ஆம் ஆண்டு தை மாதந் தொடங்கிச் சிரேட்ட பாடசாலைகளின் உயர் வகுப்புக்களிற் பெரும்பான்மையான பாடங்களைத் தமிழ், சிங்களம் என்னுமிவற்றிற் கூடாகக் கற்பித்தல் வேண்டுமென்று 1955 ஆம் ஆண்டு தைமாதம் அரசாங்கம் தீர்மானித்தது. இத் தீர்மானத்தோடு அமையத் தன்மொழி மாற்றத்திற்கு ஏற்ற பாடப்புத்தகங்களை ஆக்குவதற்குத் தேவையான வழிவகைகளையுங் கவனித் தல் வேண்டியதாயிற்று. இவ்வேலையைக் கொண்டு நடாத்துவதற்காக 1955 ஆம் ஆண்டு நடுப்பகுதியிலே தன்மொழியலுவலகந் தொடக்கப்பட்டது. இவ்வலுவலகத் தார் செய்யவேண்டிய முதல்வேலைகளுளொன்று விஞ்ஞானச் சொற்றொகுதி களை வெவ்வேறு பாடங்களுக்குத் தொகுப்பதேயாகும். அப்படிப்பட்ட சொற்றொகுதிகளுளொன்றாகிய இதனை மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் யாவருக் கும் அறிமுகஞ் செய்கின்றேன். கல்வியமைச்சரலுவலகம், மலாயர் வீதி, கொழும்பு 2, 1955 ம் ஆண்டு டிசெம்பர் மாதம் 23 ந் திகதி மொ. தி. பண்டா, கல்வியமைச்சர்.
