காவிரிப் பிரச்சினை மீது

இந்தக் கடிதத்திற்குப் பிறகு அவருக்கு நான் இன்று எழுதியுள்ள கடிதத்தில்,

"Dear Thiru Patel,

I acknowledge, with thanks, the receipt of your fax message of yesterday. I am also advised that the Supreme Court Bench, yesterday, during the hearing of the Interlocutory Application of Tamil Nadu seeking a mandatory direction to Karnataka to implement the interim Award of the Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal, has decided that the Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka meet at the earliest and evolve a solution for the release of Cauvery Waters to Tamil Nadu. In deference to the desire of the Court, I am agreeable to meeting so that we can evolve an arrangement for release of water to meet the requirements of the Cauvery Ayacut in Tamil Nadu in terms of interim order of the Tribunal. As you are aware, almost all the farmers in the delta have lost their Kuruvai crop. The storage in the Mettur reservoir is too inadequate. The farmers need to be assured of the certainty of the supplies at least to cultivate the samba crop. In view of the extreme urgency, your suggestion that we meet subsequent to August 15, is far out of this requirement.

I would suggest that, even though our Legislatures are in session, we meet within a week from now, on any day except the 4th Augest, 1996, as I have already a programme in the mofussil on that day. Kindly let me know when we would meet at the earliest. The venue can be Chennai (Madras) and I trust you would find it convenient. I have pleasure to invite you and your team here to be our guests. I am instructing our Counsels to convey to the Chief Justice today the contents of our correspondence.

With kind regards".
