He belonged to a class called Kofukkaiyar Kudi (Qassrúðaðsuff (314.). After a daughter who was named Thilakavathiyar, a son was born who was called Marulneekkiyar. He joined the Jaina College (at Patali) and to redeem him Thilakavathiyar prayed to the Lord. By His grace he was afflicted with a colic disease called Soolai (@3&u). Hence he left the monastry at Patali and came to Thiruvathigai. As he came his sister offered him the Holy Ashes which he smeared over his body sang a decad in Tamil and got relief from the disease. He thereafter came to be known as Thirunavukkarasar. He came out alive from a burning kiln in which he was placed. He was fed with poisoned food which did him no harm. The royal elephant was incited but it did not injure him. He was thrown into the sea tied to a boulder, but using it as boat sailed safely to the shore. At his request, a Trident and Bull were impressed on his shoulders by the grace of the Lord. He brought back life to the son of Appoothi who was bitten by a cobra. At Thiru veezhimizhalai he was offered a gold coin daily. At Thirumaraikkadu he caused to open the doors of the closed gateway by improvising a decad. He got the darsan of Kailas at Thiru" vaiyaru and at last he attained the feet of Siva at Pugalur.
