421 On the anniversary day of Ramalingam's father, relatives and friends were invited to a grand feast at his elder brother's house. Every one looked for Ramalingam; but he did not turn up. Even Sapapathy was much heart-broken at the thought that Ramalingam was not there even on this mcmorable day. But Papathiammal did not take food until the evening; shc affectionately gave Ramalingam the cold food left behind with tears streaming down her face. Ramalingam was moved much by the grief that he had gaused her. With a revealing sigh, she said, “How long are you going to be fed like this. If you take to your studies as your brother wants, there would be no difficulties and grief at all.” The loving mind of Ramalingam changed. He promised to study in order to respect her wishes. He requested her to give him a room, a mirror and a lamp. She gave him what he wanted. There, Ramalingam ardently worshipped Muruga looking at the light in the mirror and singing sweet songs and, then, the brilliance of the lamp was enhanced by the glorious appearance of Shanmuga of Thiruthanigai in a splendour that engulfed the entire area of the mirror. There he achieved the power of miracles of instant lcarning through grace. This sacred incident occurred when Ramalingam was nine years old. His patron-Deity, Muruga blessed him with the ability of composing sweet, clear, simple and sensecxpanding poems. Ramalingam, however, helped his brother in reading out the poem on which his brother’s lectures were based. The melodious voice of Ramalingam was always appreciated by the audience. This went on for about three years. Sapapathy was to deliver a series of Iccturcs on Peria Puraanam at Mr. Somu Chettiar's house. Suddenly, he was
