The phrase occurs in that very verse describing the heroic exploits of Palyanai-c-celkelu Kuttuvan’ against the “Konku country"-a land of deserted rocks yieldiang a handful of water many many feet below the surface. The country however was rich in its cattle wealth and its people were sturdy Warriors prepared to do anything for their cattle. They hewed down those rocks to their very depths, made them yield what little they could and swarmed round the wells to bale the water up with tiny vessels from these holes with the help of very long ropes. It was into this land of waterless rocks and against these sturdy warriors of mother Earth, struggling ever against unkind Nature, making the rocky deserts flow with milk that the Cera led his expeditions to a victorious consummation. The phrase “Kayiru Kuru Mukavai' tiny vessels of ever drawing strings ‘brings out vividly all these before our minds’ eye. All the verses of Patirrupattu" have such self-luminous gems embedded in them and each one of them is named after such poetic phrase.
