Greetings from the Governor On the occasion of your arrival in this capital I feel it my happy duty to extend, on behalf of the ten million people of Tokyo, my warmest greetings to all visitors from abroad. As you are aware, Tokyo being the political, economic and cultural centre of Japan, has a population of one tenth of the entire population of the nation, with the majority engaged in various trades and industries. Tokyo is a place in which important international conferences. conventions and seminars of world-wide scale, as well as various international sports meets of similar magnitude have been held one after the other in recent years. Theppo-76, (the South Indian Temple Car Festival), as you know is taking place on the 18th of this month here in our city. This is a significant milestone in the cultural history of our city and the country. Despite the fact that this cosmopolitan city is equipped with all the up-to-date cultural facilities aud accommodations, which modern cities are supposed to have, Tokyo still retains many time honored traditions, as well as ancient cultural assets—characteristics of the Orient and conventional Japan. - I am proud of my city in the thought that foreign vitsitors to Tokyo will not only highly appreciate all the ancient relics and other inheritance which Tokyo has kept from olden times, but will be deeply inspired by the deepness, elegance and other colorful qualities which are inherent in them. I feel certain that you will also be interested in various other aspects of Tokyo, such as the research institutes, sightseeing assets and numerous entertainment facilities, etc. In addition to reiterating my heartiest welcome to all of you for coming all the way to Tokyo. I most ardently hope that each of you. will find your stay here an enjoyable one. Governor of Tokyo, Metropolis.
