‘Ylachiappan ‘Padalgal PART-I A REVIEW BY Indian Express—Madurai—8.11.80. The story poem “Ilavarasi Mullai” is an imaginary historical mini-epic of 200 verses cast in virutham style. It is replete with romance and adventure. The whole book is written in traditional poetry of different kinds like Kalivenba, Virutham, Agaval, Venba all conforming to the requirements of prosody unlike modern verse libre to which mostbudding poets and poetasters fall a prey. The style is simple and racy, requiring no dictionary or pandit for help. The biography of E. V. Ramaswami Naicker entitled “Erotu Thaatha” is an example of such fine simplicity, recounting the struggle he carried on against society and the Government to preach and achieve his ideals of Social justice, political equality and rationalism. Taking upon himself the role of a mentor for children, the author has composed a hundred and odd adages, Some of which are original in perception.
