A FAREwell ENTERTAINMENT.-On Saturday night, a farewell entertainment was given at 51, Pursewalkum High Road, in honor of Mr. P. M. Madooray Pillay, Ship Dubash &c., Rangoon, by Mr. T. P. Dorasawmy Iyer of Tanjore and others. The hall and grounds were handsomely illuminated, and there were upwards of 1,000 persons present. Among others there were the First Prince of Arcot, Hon: Justio Mr. H.H. Shephard, Devan Bahadur P. Ramasawmy Chettier, Mr. J. Carr, Dr. N. Jesudasen Pillay, and Sir. H. C. King. Proceedings commenced at 9 o'clock, by the reading of an address by Mr. Devarajam Pillay, of the High Court, during the course of which he referred to the deterioration of the study of Tamil literature at the present day, and thanked Mr. Madooray Pillay for the efforts he had been making lately towards impressing upon Hindu students the importance of a study of the leading vernacular of Southern India. He then read a series of acrostics composed in honor of the guest, after which a selecticn of Carnatic music was sung. A Tamil Pandit of Madras next read Tamil poems composed by some of the leading Pandits of Southern India. A Tanjore dance followed, to the great delight of those present. The guests were next treated to a selection of Hindustani and English music. The proceedings concluded at 4-30 A.M., with the distribution of garlands of flowers. Refreshments were provided for the visitors, The acrostics and poems were engrossed in gold on vellum, and were handed to Mr. Madooray Pillay by the Pandit who was then presented with gold bracelets, Cashmere shawls, &c..Mr. Madooray Pillay was honored with a similar entertainment at Tanjore, on the 8th instant.

A REC2PTION.—On Saturday evening last, an entertainment on a somewhat unusually extensive scale, was given by Mr. T. P. Dorasawmy Iyer, of Tanjore, at Pursewalkum in honor of Mr. P. M. Madooray Pillay, Rangoon. Mr. Madooray Pillay was, by a large majority, elected on of the members of the Viceroy's Reception Committee on the occasion of H. E.'s isit to Rangoon en route to Mandalay in the early part of the present year At the entertainment, there were present about 1,500 guests, among whom were His Highness The Rai Bahadur Jamboolinga Moodr.
