This template is used for verses in "complex" (i.e. non-Latin) scripts that have a Romanised transliteration and translation. Example include Greek, Cyrillic, Sanskrit, etc.

All parameters are named: positional arguments will not work.

The template is a left-aligned table, containing a side-by-side comparison of the text and it's transliteration, as these are intrinsically linked. The width of the left cells (original text) is fixed, to ensure each verse aligned with the last.

The original and transliteration are not given special formatting, and are set line-by-line. If either the original or transliteration wraps due to lack of screen space, the lines will not become mis-aligned.

The lines are specified separately, as "s1" (s for script or source) and "r1" (r for Romanisation) for the first line, "s2" and "r2" for the second line and so on. If you require more lines that are supported by the template (currently 4), copy and paste the following code and change the number as appropriate. A comment is provided to indicate the correct spot. Update this documentation when you do this! Lines without an "sX" parameter will not be rendered, even if there is an "rX" parameter.

{{#if:{{{s4|}}}|{{!}}
{{!}} style="border-right:1px solid #2E8B57; padding:0em 1em 0em 0em;" {{!}} {{{s4}}}
{{!}} style="padding:0em 0em 0em 1em;" {{!}}{{{r4}}}
{{!}}-}}

The translation is under this, allowing free-verse translation that doesn't match line-for-line. This translation is bolded, so a casual reader can skip through the translated text without being distracted by the original or transliteration. The translation is set inside <poem> tags, so <br> tags are not required to break to lines.

Comments can be given using the "nb" parameter, these will be under the translation, in smaller font and indented form the left margin.

Verse numbering and anchoring

தொகு
  • If both "chap" and "verse" are given, chapter and verse numbers will be given in [chapter:verse] format.
  • If just "verse" is given, the verse number will be given as [verse].
  • If just "chap" is given, the verse number will be given as [chap].
  • If neither are given, nothing will be shown.
  • If the verse is given, an anchor called "verseX" will be made, allowing direct linking to that verse.
  • If just the chapter (and no verse) is give, an anchor named "chapterX" will be made.
